How to Recover a Single or Multiple Mailbox from the Exchange Server?

kyle.minor     02:58     exchange mailbox recovery     No comments

Mailboxes in the Microsoft Exchange Server are not free from damages and they often get corrupted or damaged for different reasons. Once a mailbox gets damaged it is quiet hard to recover it, and in most cases it depends on the time of deletion or damage which decides if the mailbox can be recovered or not. Now let's look at a few ways through which you can recover Exchange to bring back your lost mailboxes.

There are many methods which you can use to recover the deleted or damaged mailboxes from Microsoft Exchange Server. If you want to recover Exchange you do not need to look far enough as Microsoft has provided a free tool called 'Exchange Mailbox recovery' to recover individual or multiple mailboxes from the server. If you delete a mailbox by accident and the retention settings are not configured for deleted items in mailboxes and if the time for recovering the mailbox from the server has passed, you can still recover it to an alternate server or a recovery server.

You can use 'Exchange Mailbox Recovery' only if the retention settings for deleted items are configured and the time for deleted items to remain in the server has not yet passed. To restore a mailbox using this tool you need to follow a few simple steps:

After starting 'Exchange Mailbox Recovery', look if 'Display administrative groups' option is enabled. After this expand 'Administrative Groups' followed by 'AdministrativeGroup'.

Expand 'Servers' then 'YourServerName' followed by 'YourStorageGroupName'

After this expand 'Mailbox Store' and right click on 'Mailboxes' and click on 'Run Cleanup Agent'

You need to right click on the mailbox to be recovered and then click on 'Reconnect'.

Immediately service accounts will appear in the list of Active Directory and you need to click on any user account where you want the mailbox to connect and click 'OK' and quit 'Exchange Mailbox Recovery'

Another method of recovering a mailbox from the exchange server is by using the 'Recovery Storage Groups'. 'Recovery Storage Groups' are one of the most interesting features in Exchange Server. It is a unique tool which you can use to recover Exchange in a very short period of time. However, the main disadvantage of this group is that you can only use it to recover mailbox/mailboxes stores or items stored in single or multiple mailboxes. If you are trying to recover public folders then this group can do the least to help you.

Mailbox recovery through 'Recovery Storage Group' involves following a few simple steps. However, first you must open the group by following the steps mentioned below:

Open Exchange Mailbox Recovery (ESM)
Expand 'Administrative Groups'> 'First Administrative Group'> 'Servers'
Right click on 'Servers' then choose 'New'> Recovery Storage Group
Click 'OK'

Clicking on 'OK' will open the 'Recovery Storage Group' and after that you need to add mailboxes from where you want to recover the data.

Both the 'Exchange Mailbox Recovery' and 'Recovery Storage Group' are excellent tools that you can try out to recover a single or multiple mailbox from Exchange Server. However, sometimes even these tools fail to recover mailbox/mailboxes from the server if the damage is too severe. If you are unable to recover your mailbox/mailboxes with these two tools you can always take the help of third party recovery tools like 'Exchange Mailbox Recovery' software which is currently the most effective tool in the market and can recover almost all data from the server.

Know how to recover database and restore failed an Unexpected Error in Exchange Server

kyle.minor     02:05     edb to pst, recover exchange database, repair corrupted exchange Server database     No comments

When you perform operations like an online backup or defragmentation, the system reads each database page for writing or other processes. To do so, it first undergoes checksum test and check if it is correct. For any reason, if the page checksum mismatch with that has been calculated by database engine, it reports an error and the operation is halted. Such errors usually root from physical database corruption and compel you to restore the database from backup or apply some Exchange Repair measures to fix database corruption.

As an example of such problems, with Exchange Server , you might exhibit the following symptoms:

1. The client computer cannot start Microsoft Outlook
2. Users fail to send/receive e-mails
3. Online backups and defragmentation fail with a -1018 checksum mismatch error
4. The application event log in Exchange Server reports an error as below:

"Database recovery and restore failed with an unexpected error."

Cause

The above symptoms suggest that Exchange Server has failed to read database page due to checksum mismatch and the page is corrupt. However, the same issues can also occur due to firmware malfunction or problem in RAM. For the specific reason, you are suggested to view error code that is listed in the event description.

Solution

You need to apply these measures to solve the given problem:

1. If the error listed in event description is -515, the transaction log file(s) might be missing. Determine the missing logs and move them back to the log directory and/or restore the database from backup.
2. Check the system for hardware issues and solve them or migrate to a different hardware
3. Consider upgrading the BIOS and firmware
4. Perform Exchange Server Repair with eseutil /P command, followed by eseutil /D and isinteg -fix. Make sure you backup the database first as running this repair can cause important database pages to delete.

For safer MS Exchange Repair, consider using solutions like an Exchange Server recovery software. These commercial applications are built with advanced technology to run effective scan for a corrupted database and extract the valuable data out of it.

Exchange Repair Software is a professional utility that repairs corrupted Exchange Server databases. The Exchange Repair Software recovers all the mailboxes in individual *.pst files and also allows to select them as required. The tool supports Exchange Server 5.5, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013. The software can also recover deleted mailboxes.

Exchange Server Data Recovery

kyle.minor     10:13     exchange server recovery, recover corrupt database, recover exchange database     No comments

Microsoft exchange servers enjoy great popularity with many businesses, due to their expansive communication and planning features. Email communication forms the flesh and soul of any thriving industry because it proves to be indispensable in the corporate world.

The mails may pertain to hundreds of important things. It may relate to meeting notices, memorandums, important business attachments or simple emails of greetings. If the importance of email communication is underestimated, then there is great danger ahead for any professional or industry. The importance of email has given way to methods for data storage duplication, data archives, and waste of hard drive storage space.

An exchange server refers to a messaging system that facilitates transfer of internal and external electronic messages. This application is widely used in organizations as an organized relational database to manage communication.

So when an Exchange Server goes down, the effects on a company can be dramatic and needless to say, terribly disastrous. Suddenly, all email communications cease, meetings schedules become inaccessible and client lists lost. The pulse of the industry is badly affected which means there is cause for worry and panic. This is a scenario which requires fast action, and a quick return to regular service. Although the rational course of action is to opt for the normal restore operation, where email communication is the most critical application that keeps a business alive and kicking, it becomes necessary to recover exchange data recovery without a second's delay. So here is a way for exchange data recovery.

Carry out a Dial Tone Delivery: Opt for a dial tone recovery though it is more complicated than a normal restoration. However, if the idea is to get the Exchange Server back to a functional state, this is the most effective tip to assist all users for sending and receiving messages almost immediately. You can then go ahead to recover the actual data without suffering such tremendous pressure.

To learn how this process works, let's assume that though the Exchange Server data is lost, there are other functional servers on the network and that you do keep a backup of the Exchange Server. Your first step is to use the Active Directory Users And Computers console. You must go on to delete the server's computer account from this Active Directory. Once this is done, go ahead to the mailbox of each user. No, don't worry because this isn't too tedious as you imagine. Windows Server 2003 assists this task as it enables you to select multiple user accounts to complete this task without difficulty.

Now your focus is to bring the replacement server online and install Exchange Server on to it. To do this, make sure the Exchange Server is running the same service pack level as the destroyed server. Once you managed to have the new server up and running, get back to the Active Directory Users and Computers console. Go ahead and create mailboxes for all of the users. This way, Windows Server 2003 comes to your assistance again as it allows you to select multiple user accounts. Bingo, now you can surge on to create all mailboxes at one go!

A good practice to follow is that you should make it a point to test your backup files on a monthly basis so that you are familiar with the processes. If the situation arises wherein it would be required for you to restore data to your production environment, this would not become a problem due to your familiarity with the procedure. The other advantage of this is that it would reduce the downtime of your servers.
